Editing
Eyeline match
180 degrees
The 180 degree is a cinematography guideline that
shows a conversation between two characters in a
scene and it maintains a left and right relationship.
It has the ability to show unseens part that the audience might not of been able to see.The rule is to stay on a imaginary line for it to stay interesting.
An example would be the film Getaway you can see the180 degree rule because of the shot. Another example would be in any dialogue scene between two characters, there will be a imaginary straight line between the characters, if a camera is on side it must remain on side as it may disorient the audience. The imaginary line creates a path for the character for example if the character is walking in a rightward direction and is seen on a another camera the character has to exit the frame from the right and has to enter from the left.
Shot reverse
Shot reverse is a technique is when one character
is looking at another. This often ties with 180 degree to stop distorting the audience focus on the location and the character. This technique is very engaging for the audience as they can see the clear view of their facial expression and reaction. For example in The wolf of Wall Street Matthew has a very outgoing personality whilst Leo is very shy and kept to himself, this contrast could be seen as very humorous to the audience. This is where shot reverse comes in very handy as it can show each character personality clearly.
Match on Action/continuity editing
Match on action is essential when it comes to
film making, it makes sure that the cuts are
all put together to make a good scene. Match
on action are usually used in multi camera shots
as it easier to cut between shots compared to
single camera production. This link that i have added
shows a good example of match on action as there is
lots of cuts that form a good scene. https://youtu.be/Mv93covb53w
A continuity edit is the dominant style of editing and is the process of creating on more to satisfy the audience and to bring their attention in even more. The purpose of continuity shots is too smooth out the cut so they can be barely noticeable, this allows the audience to watch it peacefully.
