Opening And Closing

OPEN ENDING
An open ending is when the audience is left confused and is also known as a cliffhanger, there are also loads of prons and cons on open endings. For example, the audience can have a sense of security of a film, many people get attached to the film therefore if a cliffhanger is left they can have hope for a sequel. It also increases relevance, as films are usually forgotten after people have watched them, for example, fast and furious have had so many new films and have stayed relevant till this day. However a con is many people can get angry as they have been watched a film for an hour or so and for it to not end with no confusion is quite frustrating. Usually, when films end with an open ending a continuous film comes out however people may not like it as much as the first one as they see it as something that has run out of ideas. An example of an open ending would be American pyscho the audience don’t know if Bateman will continue his violence and drug abuse, his eye is caught by a sign that says “this is not an exit”.

                Closed Ending
A closed ending film is when the audience is left with no confusion with the ending, it doesn't allow the audience to wonder what will happen next. A pro of using closed ending is not being confused and left with no questions lingering in your head, they also receive a feel-good factor. If the director decided to do a sequel it could be worse than the original and make people angry, The film could be based on real-life events, therefore, an open ending would be less realistic to people and quite offensive to the person who it's based on, However a con is that people can get attached to a character a likeliness of a sequel happening would be very low. Many Disney princesses have a closed ending as their main audiences were towards children, therefore, leaving children with a question can be quite frustrating towards the parent. The usual plot of a Disney character is that they all have a bad life however it always turns out with a happy ending allowing children to feel content and happy with the way it ended.Another example would be one of my favorite films notebook, some would say it ended really sadly, however, some would say it ended peacefully the two lovers died together at old age.
